Lecturer Experience

David A. Cook, M.D., M.H.P.E., is an internist who conducts research in medical education.

The training of physicians is receiving increased attention. More effective and efficient ways are needed to teach medical students, postgraduate trainees, physicians in practice and other health professionals. Also needed are ways to assess their strengths and weaknesses to certify competence and identify areas for remediation.

This is the focus of Dr. Cook's research efforts — how to teach and assess health professionals so that they can provide the highest quality care to patients.

Focus areas

  • Educational technologies, such as simulation-based education and computer-based learning.

  • Clinical decision making, with a focus on designing instruction to enhance decision-making skills.

  • Assessment methods, such as developing and evaluating assessment tools to ensure that they provide valid and meaningful results.

  • The cost and value of medical education.
